Update

Few people expressed interest in sleeping at an elementary school at Exchange 18. Exchange 18 is about 100 miles into the race, so mid point of the race.

They have two options for sleeping. The school is providing this stuff as a way to fundraise money.

1. $15 all you can eat spaghetti, bread sticks, trail mix, fruit, drinks, oatmeal, indoor sleeping and washing(no showers, just restrooms)
2. $10 all you can eat spaghetti, drinks, indoor sleeping and washing

Van 1 (Tyler, Becky, Kelly, Sam, Dani, Chad) will be finishing their segment at exchange 18, which means that Van 2(Sharon, Spencer, Karen, Camille, Ilu and Eevi) will go active.

Just to clarify how it works with two vans. Van 1 will start at the start line and drive through the course while dropping and picking up their runners. During this time, van 2 is "inactive" and they are hanging out, stretching, eating or whatever, until runner six finishes at exchange 6 and Van 2 will go active while Van 1 will get a chance to take a breather.

So while your van is "active", you basically are driving along the course, getting ready to run or recovering from your run. When your van is "inactive", you can be sleeping, eating, showering etc.

I hope that makes sense. I know there was some confusion about the need for two vans when we met for our first team meeting. Let me know if you have questions!

We still need another van. I do not know anyone with a big van(like Becky's dad has). We could use my mother-in-law's Santa Fe; however, people might be little claustrophobic in there after 24+ hours since it seats just 7 people. Another option is renting. However, this will be more expensive and I would hate to add any more costs to this race since it is already an expensive one.

Van 1 (Becky's dad's van-Becky's dad as a driver)

1. Tyler Goodrich
2. Kelly Bentley

Van 2 (no van yet-Troy has volunteered as a driver)
7. Sharon Jarvis

We still need three volunteers or we will have to pay 120 dollars per volunteer. Anyone have family members or friends who can help out with this?

I registered the team. I put down 8:45 minutes/mile as our average team pace. If we feel like it is not correct, I am sure I can contact the race officials and change it.

I let Eevi know that I talked to my dad and he's willing to lend us the van and be our driver for it!!! Woo hoo!!! And if we need him, Tyler said he could be our 12th runner if no one else works out.

Team Meeting

First Team Meeting Friday Oct. 2nd, 2009 at 6 pm

1. Please check out this link so we can figure out who will be running what leg. This way everyone will know what they will be training for.

2. We should also come up with a team name. I am not that clever so I hope that someone else will come up something fabulous. There is a prize for the best team name:)

3. Bring any questions, concerns or ideas so we can make this a fun and fabulous experience for everyone.

4. Out of town people, you can email me or post any team names and your request for a running distance before Friday so you can be accommodated.

Let's Get Started

There are few things that I wanted to talk about with everyone.

1. Early registration is due October 15, 2009. It will be $85 per runner if we register by then. If we wait, it will jump up to $100 per runner. Personally, I would like to save the $15, so I wanted to check if people are comfortable with registration this early. The fees are nonrefundable.

2. I think it would be fun to have a team meeting. Everyone (in Tucson at least) could meet each other and we could start figuring out some of the details regarding the race while enjoying some good food. I was thinking of the weekend of October 2nd-4th; Friday or Saturday evening would most likely be best for the majority of the people. What do you guys think of the idea? I'll be happy to have it at my place.

3. Karen Boerup is our newest addition:) So we need three more runners.

4. I am so excited to run this relay with you guys. I think we have a fabulous and fun group of people running together, which is the most important thing about this relay.

5. I tried to find a cool background for the blog that would fit the theme of the blog. I was unsuccessful, so if anyone finds one, please feel free to add it. Also everyone is welcome to add things to the blog and post stuff as much as they want.
